Critic Reviews for Mud
Its beguiling mix of naturalism and fabulism will appeal to adults who'd like to see a version of Beasts Of The Southern Wild with fewer fairy lights.
The type of film that's miraculously heartwarming, while also mournful and filled with sorrow.
An evocative highlight of the American movie year so far.
Sadly, Nichols, who made the superb Take Shelter, gets mired in mood this time around. But there's still an evocative sense of childhood exploration, and a gritty performance by Matthew McConaughey.
Audience Reviews for Mud
A great teenage adventure movie with an intriguing plot and outstanding child actors. It sums up the childhood feelings of having a really exciting summer really well. The sudden burst of violence during the showdown seems a bit too much, but everything is perfectly solved after all. Satisfying, touching and really well done all around.
That's not just some dog howling at the moon, that's the memory of Mark Twain's Huck Finn sagely recognising a kindred spirit in this evocative and moody trip to childhood, lost love, family breakups and small town intrigue. To Kill A Mockingbird lives right down the road in the hollow. Not to be missed.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. It's been hanging around on the watchlist for a while now.
