In this film, Peter Lorre makes his fifth appearance as J. P. Marquand's polite but deadly Japanese sleuth Mr. Moto. This time Moto is called in by Scotland Yard to thwart a vicious gang of international assassins. To infiltrate the gang, Moto poses as a Devil's Island inmate.

The banal plot is the weak spot, but the action at the climax is good.

Typical entry into the Hollywood "inscrutable Asian as wily detective" cliché that cheats the audience by keeping the clues from us until the reveal at the end: only the detective noticed!!! Still, its a fun genre, while there are no surprises (at least not anymore).
