Movie Info

Three art school friends begin their careers in the bizarre NYC art world, while trying to discover themselves at the same time. Dan Pierson sets out to make himself darker by convincing his mother to pose nude for a series of paintings. Kelsey Fricke blackmails an art dealer into helping her start her career and ends up falling in love with a handsome buyer. But is he interested in her, or her art? Quinn Donahue is an old-school bohemian spirit who struggles in this new world of responsibility and ethics. The drama all takes place under the shadow of their friend Austin Gamby, who made it big right out of art school. They quickly learn that the life of an artist today isn't the romantic idea they believed it to be, but they must deal with it if they ever want to be successful. Veteran indie filmmaker Michael Walker takes us on a darkly comedic journey into the underbelly of the art world where friendships are tested and romances may not be what they seem.

Paint takes aim at the pretentiousness of artists but understands that it is fueled by self-doubt in a world ruled by intense competition and the fickle judgement of the marketplace.

Movies that focus on the creative process often fall into a paint-by-numbers rut. Paint, on the other hand, does nothing by the numbers.

...an appealing drama that benefits substantially from the top-notch work of its three stars...

March 27, 2021 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

Paint is a dark and comedic turn on the Art business and the struggles young artsy graduates must endure in order to prove themselves worthy. A sharp portrait of such a particular microverse.
