Flawed, but see it for Rita.
...Frank Sinatra's confident and amusing performance as singer and actor makes the picture worth seeing. The music, by Rodgers & Hart, is also beguiling.
In Pal Joey, Rita Hayworth makes an indelible impression as a screen siren, as sexy as in her '40s heyday, winning the audience's favor.
Due to restrictions of the Production Code, George Sidney's musical of John O'Hara's outre 1940 stage show is compromised, but there some good songs and visual pleasure in watchning Columbia's stars Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak (though they're dubbed).
The film goes up in flames when its '50s morality rears its ugly head.
Sinatra is fantastic.
Audience Reviews for Pal Joey
Like a lot of musical adaptations of the mid 20th century, the filmmakers attempted to completely rewrite the source material but ended up with something barely coherent.

A charming singer woos a wealthy widow and slum-woos a chorus girl. The only good thing about this film is the music. Hearing Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth, and Kim Novak sing standards is a close second to a conceivable and interesting plot and dynamic characters. It is unfortunate that Pal Joey features such an asshole as its main character and two female supporting characters whose attachment to Joey make us question whether we should care about their interests at all. The entire story relies upon how charming you think Sinatra's old blue eyes are, and while it's true that it's hard to find a more dreamy leading man, it's much easier to be affected by his allure when he's not so callously "trading up" at the expense of others' feelings. Overall, Pal Joey is a better soundtrack than it is a film.

A pretty good movie with a brilliant cast, I didn't get to see the whole film, but it looked pretty good. I'd like to see the whole movie sometime.
