Critic Consensus: Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin gives the long-running found-footage franchise a new level of visual polish; unfortunately, effective scares are few and far between.

Critic Reviews for Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin

This incarnation of the Paranormal Activity films is plenty effective... These actors are just excellent at playing the material.
It's clearly an original story that's been slapped with the Paranormal Activity label and that only adds to the sense that there's little creative depth here.
No longer bound by tired mythology, Next of Kin presents a new supernatural mystery through its most polished effort yet. If only it included tension and scares, too.
It's not exciting or scary or comically bad. It is a shrug, nodding that it's time for horror heroes to put the cameras down and get back to running downs paths truly unknown.
"Next of Kin" is like "Midsommar" meets "Breaking Amish" meets "The Blair Witch Project: Fifty Shades of Dark."
Absent formal rigor, the "Paranormal Activity" concept doesn't offer much else.
