Squint your eyes and it's almost like watching a Nicolas Winding Refn film but without the violence or black humor.
This is lean, muscular filmmaking that often manages to be sensual and gruff in the span of a single scene.

And though there be no precious gemstones lying in wait for the movie's central characters, at least we, the audience, have this particular Pearl to cherish.
Pearl is beautiful and unapologetic.
As a story of a lost woman reconnecting with herself and her child, this is surprisingly moving even if it's only sporadically involving.
