Critic Reviews for Rhinestone

Effortlessly living up to its title, Rhinestone is as artificial and synthetic a concoction as has ever made its way to the screen.
The center part of the film -- the country "training" sessions -- could have been fun if they'd been written with a satiric edge. Unfortunately, they seem to have been written with a blunt instrument.
As Mr. Stallone wends his way through barnyards and country cabins, the material retains some comic potential. But as the inevitable romance springs up between the two stars, their lack of rapport becomes all too noticeable.

...a vanity project for two big stars who hadn't figured out what audiences wanted to see them do, this is an egocentric disaster...
This is a charming movie, spunky and full of surprising fun.
A country singer wagers that she can teach her trade to a New York cabbie, with predictable results.
Audience Reviews for Rhinestone
Although there is a discernible plot, the steps along the plot are not discernible. Terrible acting and even worse singing are the most distinctive features of this hapless 80's film. Nevertheless, it's still kind of fun in a bad-movie, lighthearted way.

Saw this trapped on an airplane over the Pacific Ocean. Jumping out of the plane was considered. How Dolly got talked into this I will never know. The idea that she could turn Sly into a singer is preposterous, and the movie proves it. Total waste of time. money and talent (Dolly, not Sly.) It gets one star because Dolly is worth watching, even in trash like this.

Singularly unwatchable 80s "comedy" that's country & western cross between Fame and My Fair Lady. With Sylvester Stallone. Draw your own conclusions...
