The movie is flawed, but there is a lot of promise here. The final act and twist are creative and mostly make up for the lackluster moments.
Considering the ambitious nature of the story, Risen deserves some points for at least trying to do something different and if it is ultimately a miss in the end, at least it is a near-miss.
Risen is so poorly executed, any interest or suspense that might otherwise be generated by the story is lost to the film's plodding pace, subpar visual effects, and shoddy construction.
A low-budged alien invasion movie that sometimes looks better than low-budget and sometimes doesn't.
