Movie Info

Eddie Cantor stars in the musical comedy in which he dreams he's back in ancient Rome and a food-taster slave for the wicked Emperor Valerius (Edward Arnold). He tries to reveal Valerius as an imposter fraud and gets involved in a wild chariot chase. There are plenty of musical numbers, many of them including the lovely Goldwyn Girls (with the then-unknown, Lucille Ball). This is mostly fun-filled and innocent, even though in one scene the Goldwynn Girls appear wearing nothing but blonde wigs!

Critic Reviews for Roman Scandals

About ten percent of Roman Scandals is one hundred per cent entertainment. But the show on the whole is slow.

Cantor's last film, The Kid from Spain, netted him a personal stipend of $260,000. Roman Scandals will probably make more for him, as it is brighter, gayer, livelier.
