I am drawn not to the heights of Preminger's oeuvre but to the oddities and misfires that clot his late-period output...his penultimate movie, Rosebud, offers some thrills, especially for those who cherish incongruities.
Doubtless, like most Preminger, it'll improve with age.
A suspense melodrama of such ineptitude, lethargy and loose ends that only someone with his arm being twisted would take credit for it.
Rosebud should have been a surefire winner.
O'Toole is his aloof, charismatic self, which helps the meandering and convoluted script.
Rosebud makes even Exodus look like Gone With The Wind.
