Rustlers' Rhapsody tries to challenge the age old rule that you can't satirize the Western, and fails.
Even on the mechanical level in which it was made, the number of jokes that don't work far outnumber the ones that do.
As a 10-minute sketch on Saturday Night Live, it probably would have been dynamite. But at 1 hour, 28 minutes, the picture seems padded.
Although fans of Westerns will probably enjoy the movie more than others, Rustlers' Rhapsody will still prove amusing even for viewers who dislike the genre.
Mr. Berenger is perfectly adequate but, like the film, he's on much too long.
What this one lacks is broad-barreled fun, which is the essential element in a spoof.
