Movie Info

Based on the novel for children by Garrison Keillor, this drama concerns Rachel Green, a 14-year-old girl spending the summer with her folks in Sandy Bottom, Wisconsin. Rachel doesn't have any friends in Sandy Bottom, she thinks her parents are weird, and the only thing that makes her feel better is playing her violin. However, her musical talent gives her a chance to stand out when the local orchestra asks her to join them for their upcoming Fourth of July concert. As she gets ready for the big show, Rachel finds herself making friends with an athletic girl who seems to be her polar opposite -- and develops a crush on a local boy. The Sandy Bottom Orchestra stars Glenne Headly, Tom Irwin, Jane Powell, and Madeline Zima.

Audience Reviews for The Sandy Bottom Orchestra

Occasionally a little sticky but overall enjoyable drama of coming to grips with both who you are and your place in your community and the greater world. Good performances from all three leads, Jane Powell adds a lovely touch whenever she is on screen, regrettably those moments are few.
