Here's a shivery treat for horror connoisseurs more interested in mood and atmosphere than blood and guts.
Through both theme and texture, Graham approximates the slow phobia of Ari Aster's Hereditary-the pervasive feeling that the dominos are tumbling and there is nothing that can be done about it.
Graham uses darkness and a very sparse score/soundscape to create a truly disturbing work that relies not so much on gore as the uncanny in its most potent form: stillness, pools of darkness and just-visible figures.
Anyone can pull off a jump scare or three. Graham immediately manages the considerably more difficult task of conjuring a mood of general dread, suffusing ordinary settings with supernatural unease.
Beyond any other aspect, Sator is visually staggering in a way that sticks with you.
