Shake the Dust paints an inspiring portrait of b-boys and b-girls from Uganda, Colombia, Cambodia and Yemen.
For the most part "Shake the Dust" is a passably engaging ode to joy, the kind that feels special because it's hard-earned and communal, and it displaces adversity, however briefly.

About a third of the movie is over before he gets past the dancing footage and vague references to social turmoil in each country, though the dancers he interviews compensate for the jarring shifts in location and the general lack of narrative flow.

I enjoyed the music and dance in Shake the Dust, but it's rarely as insightful or as instructive as it could've been.
...despite its structural problems, Shake the Dust is at times stunning to look at.
The film's ultimate beauty lies ... in highlighting the shared cultural experiences of these disparate youth through hip-hop.
