Critic Reviews for Sheila Levine Is Dead and Living in New York
All Critics (11) | Top Critics (8) | Fresh (4) | Rotten (7)
The film has virtually no appeal.

In the final anaylsis, it is the unpredictability of its lead characters that makes "Sheila Levine" intriguing.
The novel had a wry credibility; the film is preposterous.

It all has been done with warm and comic overtones via Miss Berlin's performance and the rather studied direction of Furie, who has in recent years become a steady skillful director...
Miss Berlin and the laconic Scheider make a sweetly odd couple. It's an important new career horizon for the latter, who couldn't have played cops and hit men for the rest of his life.
The hard-hitting book has become a half-credible fantasy that panders to the romantic imagination of the masses...
