Sidewalks of London (1938)

Also released under the title St. Martin's Lane, this film follows the life of street performer Charles Saggers (Charles Laughton) who meets up with the young, wayward Lilly (Vivien Leigh) and includes her in his act to keep her out of trouble. However, when Lilly's talent is discovered by songwriter Harley Prentiss (Rex Harrison), he whisks her away to become a big star, leaving Charles friendless and brokenhearted.

wonderful performances by laughton and leigh as struggling street performers. laughton is especially heartbreaking.

Fine drama with two acting greats bringing out the best in each other. Rex's part is small but Laughton and Leigh are dynamite.
