While the performances are often sloppy and haggard, there are moments when the band's formidable talents shine through like a beacon in the fog.

It's energetic, lively, raucous and catches the essence of what made Zeppelin larger than life.

Audience Reviews for The Song Remains The Same

This film shows Led Zeppelin at their legendary 1973 Madison Square Garden concert with mixed in scenes of the group members at their homes and in elaborate fantasy settings. John Bonham's live version of his "Moby Dick" drum solo is magical as it always was. As a drummer, I never tire of listening to his thunderous, jazzy brilliance.

If you're not a Led Zeppelin fan this won't convert you, but it's worth seeing for John Paul Jones' Puritan haircut alone. The Madison Square Garden concert footage is fantastic but it occasionally suffers from dated, psychedelic optical-effects work; the fantasy sequences are pompous, self-mythologizing and impenetrable, but they do serve the purpose of re-igniting ones interest when the music drifts off into ponderously proggy and self-indulgent territory; the behind-the-scenes documentary footage is half-hearted, less than illuminating and was probably only included to give manager Peter Grant some screen-time. It would have been nice to have seen a bit of the band's pastoral, acoustic side but this is still an important document. Essential viewing for fans.

Whether you dig it for the music, the fantasy sequences or the filmic value, it's a great snapshot of a band at the height of their popularity.
