Highly predictable and boring.

One of the better late '70s horror TV movies. Based on the book "Summer of Fear" by Lois Duncan (the author of "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Stranger With My Face" among other essential reads for budding horror fans), and the first "mainstream" project for Wes Craven, who previously directed "The Last House on the Left" and "The Hills Have Eyes." But the most important part of the equation is Linda Blair. By 1978, Linda had gotten mixed up in a drug deal and that, combined with the spectacular failure of "Exorcist II: The Heretic" the year prior, meant that she was already headed into the "hasbeen" files. The next year would bring the horrifying non-horror film "Roller Boogie" and a long string of dreadful B-movies for a long time. So in this stop gap between two of the worst movies ever made, Blair gives a fine performance in a somewhat-forgotten bit of scariness that still holds up pretty well. (I have no idea what's up with the DVD cover though.)

It's basically a Poison Ivy movie, before there was Poison Ivy. With witchcraft/supernatural elements. Doesn't grab your attention, doesn't deter you away. But one question lingers...if the witch can use her witchcraft to close the kid's window, floor the accelerator, and pop the hood, why couldn't she just careen the car off the mountain? Oh well.

Standard story of a bad seed in the family, Linda Blair is terrorized by a cousin who practices witchcraft.....worth a look for an early Linda Blair role (if post-EXORCIST) and for an early "Nightmare On Elm Street" credit for Wes Craven...

It's not a bad horror and Wes Craven does a decent directional job, however it is a television movie and the general standard of the production suits this.

This movie starts out boring, and just when it starts to get better, you realize how predictable the story is going to be, and the ending is stupid. Overall, an interesting movie, but not good.

SUMMER OF FEAR (1978) aka :Stranger In Our House. Directed by Wes CravenAaah....this brings back memories!A fun, predictable, 'made-for-television' style film (above-average for TV, below-average for cinema).Linda saves the day when her recently-orphaned cousin(actually, a witchy imposter) comes to live with her family in rural smalltown, USA.Everyone falls in love with the beautiful creature who has seen so much tragedy in her short life. Everyone, that is, except Linda, who feels that there is something ?not quite right? about her cousin.Nobody else seems to recognise her'subtle' sinister aura & it is not long before witchy, evil things start to happen. I particularly enjoyed the bewitchment of Linda that caused her to break out in a pustular facial rash & miss her school prom!! Of course, cousin-dear then took her place as Linda's beau's date.Horror?.......Yes, but so engagingly innocent!!!Linda Blair is SO young .... there is a certain tragic pathos one feels when looking at her bright, button eyes shining with youthful optimism. She still believes that great things are in store for her after her trailblazing debut in The Exorcist.Alas, the soul-destroying days of Chained Heat were only 5 years away. 3 & a half out of 5 stars.

The worst movie I've ever seen.

Actually, it originally aired on NBC on Oct. 31, 1978, not in Dec. Based on the book, "Summer of Fear", by Lois Duncan (who also authored "I Know What You Did Last Summer"). BTW, the movie has nothing to do with demons, despite what the description says.

Typical made for tv movie. Not a lot happens making for a dull 90 minutes. Based on the novel by Lois Duncan.

dont let the 70s date and wes cravens name sell you here, even though it came after classics last house on the left and the hills have eyes, its a very mediocre effort. looks like made for tv, by the credits also, a silly story concerning linda blairs believe that her cousin now staying with her and family is evil, some silly moments acting throughout, no real tension, and not very well directed, and blair gets annoying at times,

Craptastic and worth viewing (a) for Linda Blair's hideous perm and (b) with the right group of people. Thank you, right group of people!

Le film a mal vieilli mais nous pouvons deja percevoir la force du cinema de Craven.
