Movie Info

In this satirical black comedy, two very different, unemployed men witness an attempted robbery and are able to identify the amiable culprit who does his darnedest to see that they don't. Realizing that they are both marked for murder, each man reacts quite differently. One, a former executive enrolls in survivalist training.

It's an aimless, self-indulgent, confusing comedy that never comes to grips with its material.

No one seems to have paid any attention to the screenplay or to have considered the awful truth that Mr. Matthau and Mr. Williams, each performers of great charm, don't play together very well.

August 30, 2004 | Rating: 2/5

Williams, Matthau, and Reed struggle with the material and generate some bright moments, but overall The Survivors is a bewildering, frustrating movie.

Audience Reviews for The Survivors

This movie brings to light the real cold war and nuclear paranoia of the 80s, but in a lighthearted way. Williams is particularly frantic in this movie, but pretty funny for the most part, and Matthau is the straight man to his mania, which often makes him look bored with the movie. Overall, a pretty good movie, though.
