Critic Reviews for Tall in the Saddle

RKO's Western is simple but entertaining and it's fun to see the Duke, who enjoys good chemistry with the tough and sexy Ella Raines just before he became a box-office star.

A rousing oater that is both watchable and forgettable.

...about as old-fashioned a cowboy picture as one could imagine, but it moves along quickly enough, and it adds a touch of mystery and romance to the usual fights and chases.

Audience Reviews for Tall in the Saddle

Standard oater with nothing to distinguish it from the dozens of other run of the mill westerns that Wayne made throughout his career.

Just a really likable movie with great characters and a unique mystery element that westerns don't always have. John Wayne presents such a great character, being a lot more of a traditional nice guy than a tough talking bad boy. For not being a huge movie, it's shot extremely well and it's not really dated. No corny characters or goofy costumes, it's all pretty perfect. I love the romance between John Wayne and Ella Raines, it has chemistry to say the least.
