Movie Info

Alfie Wickers is probably the worst teacher to (dis)grace the English education system, but no one cares about their pupils quite as much as Alfie does. Having completed their GCSEs, Alfie is keen for his class to join him on one last hurrah and what follows is a coming of age story like no other, the best school trip ever!

You sense Whitehall and co-writer Freddy Syborn egging one another on to see who can scrape the bottom of the barrel quickest and loudest.

A sequel may be far from a guaranteed prospect, but the pic does establish the elastic-faced Whitehall as a film-anchoring comic presence (and writer) for other, similarly lightweight vehicles.

Childish? Yes, of course; this is schoolboy humour run amok. Funny? Bad Education is unexpectedly hilarious ...

The Bad Education Movie's crass humour will offer much to enjoy for fans of the series and Whitehall himself, but will do little for anyone not already on board.

The comedy is broad and the hijinks mostly puerile, with far too many episodes involving threats to and exposure of Alfie's testicles. Other gags, however, are set up with impressive care.

Ultimately there are enough good jokes to make the feature a worthwhile endeavour.

Audience Reviews for The Bad Education Movie

I enjoyed this. The comedy was good and did not go for the easy pickings that most films could have done. I also liked the fact that this was a half decent plot too. I did not know that this was based on a TV series. I might have to check that out sometime.

Those unfamiliar with the popular British sitcom (like me) can view the film version of the antics of the students of the fictional Abbey Grove School as insight into the desires of current British mindset. Its all very politically correct with 1 Asian female (she's smart!), 1 black female (she's tart!), 1 tart (well!), 1 gay guy (he's outrageous!) 1 guy in a wheelchair (he's plucky!), 1 mama's boy (don't judge him!), and 1 hooligan (an asshole but with a heart of gold!), but there's no worries as they all agree to go out and have a good time together ... if only they can keep their foul-up teacher in line, which translates mainly into keeping his pants up. It's more cute than funny but at least it wasn't as offensive as I described it. Not bad. And a trip to Cornwall as well.
