Movie Info

Set during the Civil War, this film focuses on the conflict between a proud old Virginia colonel and his weak-willed son. When the boy refuses to enlist in the Confederate army, his father forces him to do so literally at gunpoint.

As a movie it's a hoary old chestnut but as an historical document it's fascinating. The damage to the print actually adds to the filling that you're watching a series of Matthew Brady daguerreotypes come to life.
