A World War II thriller has an O.S.S. officer (Van Johnson) helping a Nazi general to escape to London. The Nazi is a cold blooded murderer responsible for the death of Johnson's fiance and eleven other French citizens. Hounded by his peers and his own conscious, he is determined to deliver the general for the good of the Allied Command. He later finds the general is a decoy sent to supply erroneous information to weaken the Allied cause.
