Made in the British tradition of quality, the film adds another panel to the revisionist history of women's roles in WWII--Women's Land Army (WLA), a unit composed of women who replaced men in the fields--Rachel Weisz is a major talent to watch.
More than with most movies, I felt the reality of the rural setting, the earth beneath the grass, the closeness of the animals to their masters. But the story itself seemed thin in comparison.
Very charming, if slightly conventional.
These women bond together during their wartime experiences. And like their male counterparts on the front, they experience a freedom that is both intoxicating and edifying.
