Critic Reviews for The Lost Prince (Le prince oublié)
There are hints of greatness in this high-concept French-language fantasy from Michel Hazanavicius, the Oscar-winning director of The Artist. Yet, frustratingly, it's just not quite there.
The film is a little well-behaved - success has apparently deprived Hazanavicius of the mischief that made the OSS films such a riot - but there's imagination, heart and empathy here.
The story is increasingly predictable. You can imagine a superior Disney remake already in the works, if you didn't feel like you'd already seen almost every element of this overprotective daddy comedy before.
For a commercial venture - or film grand public, as they say in France - meant to please both children and adults alike, the movie maintains a certain charm factor.
The Lost Prince almost feels like the Hollywood movie [Michel Hazanavicius] never made. It's bright, colourful, expensive-looking and - sad to say - a tad predictable.
