Busybody social reformers take a poverty-stricken young mother's baby away when her unemployed husband is arrested for murder and sentenced to death. This morality play was begun separately by D.W. Griffith as The Mother and the Law then was subsequently reworked as a story thread of his masterpiece Intolerance (1916).
