Critic Reviews for The Student and Mr. Henri
The performances by Schmidt and Bel are adequate, but Brasseur, who played opposite the likes of Jean Gabin back in the 1950s, is unable to get much change out of the stereotyped role of the old grump.
The fact Henri attempts to pimp out Constance to upset his bourgeois son's sterile marriage seems overlooked in the syrupy climax. An unlikeable film about unlikeable people.
It's blandly pleasant, and the music is quite nice, but you'll be hard pressed to remember anything about it a week after you see it.
A simple but entertaining story, with friendly characters and balanced humor with emotion and tenderness. [Full review in Spanish]
Conveys a message of empathy, friendship and perseverance. We have heard it before but contemporary history shows that it hasn't been enough. [Full review in Spanish]
Audience Reviews for The Student and Mr. Henri
The music is cliched and Mr. Henri's feelings for Constance grow in a way that seems a bit rushed when you stop to think about it (it made me wish I could know more about his motivations), but the movie has a heart and is mature enough to be worth our time.
