The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)

Critic Consensus: Sleek, stylish, and painlessly diverting, The Thomas Crown Affair is a remake of uncommon charm.

Still, this techno-fiscal romance has its rewards.

It's nice to see a Hollywood movie that appreciates a mature female body for a change. And nice to see that The Thomas Crown Affair has survived its glossy, glam makeover so well.

The Thomas Crown Affair is the movie that the people behind the heavy-handed Entrapment probably thought they were making.

Audience Reviews for The Thomas Crown Affair

The fantasy indulged here is the dream of being smarter than everyone else in the room. Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo are our uber-surrogates in this regard, bound for bed by virtue of their singular I.Q.'s alone (but they look mah-velous, dah-link!). Everyone else in the cast simply watches from the sidelines jealously. This filmic tango dances around about art and art heists but actually never wavers from its primary conceit. Fun, guilty pleasure.

This striking, style remake succeeds on its own merits, very average. Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo are perfectly suited to these characters; dueling titans who must appear icily superficial and above common worldly concerns. The heist seems in both are superbly conceived and well filmed, with just the right amount of tension about the problems arising. Good stuff.

I thought this was a pretty decent light hearted, sexy, crime thriller. More of a heist film to be honest. it's fun seeing how they did it, if the cops can figure it out and if he can get away with it. Strong cast and a well put together film overall.
