Orson Welles's first full-length, one a compilation of scenes filmed largely on the streets of New York and displaying neighborhoods that no longer exist...

Haphazard, but buoyant, an experiment in pastiching old-fashioned cinematic styles, but with a passion that energises them. Three years before Citizen Kane and here we can see Welles happily at play with his new favourite toy.
Three mostly plotless slapstick scenes and that kind of works for me... Joseph Cotten is running around 1930s New York doing daring stunts and impeccable pratfalls.
Early Welles is full of his trademark subjects and visual style.
