I would not have made the connection between the two World Wars and the rise of the horror genre over at Universal Studios, nor did I recognize their enormous impact on the culture outside of my own poor reverence. Commentator Ray Bradbury beautifully describes what it was like the first time these masterworks were revealed to the eager public for jaded modern ears gone stale so the works can be fully appreciated. I also learned about other film's outside of the usual starting lineup of suspects. A must see for fans of the creepy.

Very informative peek at the early days of Universal's unparalleled fright films.

Fine documentary on Universal Pictures early groundbreaking horror films. What sets this documentary apart is that the documentarians were able to interview a great number of the people still alive who were directly involved in the making of these films. A great documentary for people interested in the subject.

A great film history companion to AFI's "Visions of Light". You will understand how modern horror came about and laugh at the kind of thing that freaked the censors out in the '30s and '40s

Only serviceable documentary just skims the surface of the rich heritage of Universal's classic horror films. A solid array of interviews and some fun film clips, but the whole thing has a rushed, underwhelming quality that is less than the subject deserves, though classic horror fans will still find it entertaining.
