A vibrant and witty addition to Shudder's extensive catalogue of horror, and it teases the potential for sequels which could easily be even better.

Easily succeeds in being more than a high concept and a grab bag of references and, crucially gets the balance between laughter and gore... spot on, often simultaneously.

Neon lights and electronic music intermingle in this delightful horror comedy. [Full review in Spanish]

Vicious Fun is exactly that and may even spawn a sequel.

Works best when it's not trying to comment on genre tropes, but it still works as an entertaining diversion.

Whilst giving a nod and a wink to many genre staples, especially in its killers, Calahan is thoroughly inventive in his scheming.

This is writer/director Calahan's most accessible project to date and he knocks it out of the park. The comedy is well balanced with fantastic prosthetic effects. Plus: Canadian character actors!

Hats off to Callahan for not only finding a unique and fun premise in an overcrowded genre but for appreciating the precious jewel that is the nice guy.

Vicious Fun is exactly what the title suggests. Complete with neon-soaked nostalgia and stellar performances, it makes for an exhilarating and enticing throwback.

A sleek, bloody and generally good time, even if the dated comedy is often way off the mark.

Vicious Fun is clearly a film made by fans for fans, and it's meant to entertain (the word "fun" is right there in the title, after all) rather than make some big statement or break much new ground. And in that, it definitely succeeds.

Vicious Fun is a loving homage to the schlocky horror flicks that lined video store shelves throughout the '80s.
October 15, 2020
The action comes think, fast, and very bloody from all the serial killer stereotypes that are presented here within this motley crew.

If you're into the twisted playfulness of Vicious Fun, you'll holler and howl as the 80s fight (and bite) back with a vengeance.

While the gruesome set pieces tend to be signposted and predictable they're dispatched with stylish glee, as if celebrating scares we've seen before, rather than inventing new ones.

Vicious Fun is a hoot, packed with references without ever feeling like studied post-Scream meta chin-stroking.
June 18, 2021
The film, directed by Cody Calahan, isn't super deep, but it is good cheeky (and bloody) fun.

The result is a self-aware skewering of decades-old fashions and sensibilities that have still left their bloody mark on our own era of genre filmmaking.
June 28, 2021
Steph Copeland's Carpenter-esque synth score and Jeff Maher's neon-spiked cinematography add a classy edge, and there's a ton of gore, from eye gougings to eviscerations.

Aims to give its viewers what its title says.
