Splendid screen version of Maxwell Anderson's poetic stage drama. Not for children, however.

Audience Reviews for Winterset

Taken from a stage play by Maxwell Anderson (and ever so obviously taken from the stage) this is one of those liberal-leaning pieces that never ever takes it's heart off of its sleeve. After a minute your eyes will roll on their own accord, so over-the-top are the sentiments expressed. Nonetheless, a good work who's time has merely passed. Eduardo Ciannelli is excellent as the dark force propelling the action, and John Carradine's reformer is well done too. The sets are great, atmospheric. If only they had toned the hokey down some.
