Yes Man (2008)

Critic Consensus: Jim Carrey's comic convulsions are the only bright spots in this otherwise dim and predictable comedy.

Movie Info

Carl Allen's life is going nowhere--the operative word being "no"--until he signs up for a self-help program based on one simple covenant: say yes to everything--and anything. Unleashing the power of "YES" begins to transform Carl's life in amazing and unexpected ways, getting him promoted at work and opening the door to a new romance. But, his willingness to embrace every opportunity might just become too much of a good thing.

[Jim Carrey] connects with you, off and on, to make you laugh. Only thing is, Carrey's face-pulling, eye rolling antics have been served up once too often to for us to be enamoured anew.

The most even-keeled, pleasant and mainstream movie Jim Carrey has made in many a moon.

Numbingly predictable and not as filled with action as the misleading poster suggests.

It's charming enough with some nice comedy touches, but the initially intriguing premise is soon railroaded out of sight by its desire to conform to a tried-and-tested cinematic formula.

January 5, 2009 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

It's a bland, high-concept comedy where the producers seem to have entered the spirit of the thing by saying yes to every random idea the writers came up with.

Sort of ho-hum stuff, but nice to see a cameo from Rhys Darby, from TV's Flight of the Conchords.

Audience Reviews for Yes Man

Jim Carrey is hilarious with his customary physical humor, but he can't do much to compensate for gags that are mostly poorly conceived or just ridiculous, not to mention a plot that borders on complete implausibility and is all about artificial conflicts.

Not the best... interesting idea for a comedy, but Jim Carrey is just too hammy in it and it lacks substance and feels shorter than it is. A few mild laughs and a few gross scenes too (such as the old lady). Zooey is worth watching, but she's done better movies. I've read the book it's based on and it's seriously nothing like it.
