Trolls World Tour (2020)
There are a few lines that will have you howling. I know they did me. You probably won't love the movie but at least those few lines and the positive message make it tolerable.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019)
Video game-based movies pretty much suck. So does the predicable plot of this one. However, there are a couple of threads that are flat out hilarious and that save the movie.

Midsommar (2019)
Forget the Chucky and Annabelle crap that passes itself off as horror. Ari Aster's sophomore effort is the real deal & so disturbing. Want to see real horror? This is it.

Late Night (2019)
Those loving sitcom-like flicks and Mindy Kaling will eat this one up. Emma Thompson has the most fun as the narcissistic late night TV show host.

I lost count of the body count very quickly. Just know it's over 100. Bloody, brutal and this year's top guilty pleasure movie.

Us (2019)
Barely recommending this one. Peele's second W/D effort is mostly so-so. It's like fast food. Looks good, tastes good but is so many empty calories.

Wonder Park (2019)
Kind of dark for a so-called "kids" flick. Outside of being too much of a downer in critical places, there isn't a lot of wonder in Wonder Park.

Captain Marvel (2019)
When a cat, a Stan Lee-filled opening Marvel logo, a fun cameo and making fun of 1990s computer technology steal a movie you know that movie is in deep trouble.

It is hard to watch a great movie concept sputter, stall and then drop from the sky faster and harder than one of the animated dragons in free fall.

Split decision on this one. It's not an unbreakable split decision, however. Loved James McAvoy's work but not much else.

The Upside (2019)
The movie is pure Hollywood schmaltz but I - who normally don't like Kevin Hart at all - was so impressed with his dramatic chops that I am going to recommend The Upside.

The Sisters Brothers (2018)
It's a Western. We're starved for a good one. This isn't it but - hey - it's a Western. BTW, John C. Reilly is REALLY good in this.

The Predator (2018)
Set up as a new series. This is the usual, predators predictably predatiting or whatever you call it. Dull characters, too, but the flick is fun if it's your thing.

Peppermint (2018)
Peppermint as a flavor doesn't work for me. Peppermint as a movie doesn't work either. A soccer mom turning hard core killer is laughably unbelievable.

Lots goes wrong at sea for this couple. More goes wrong for the movie which ultimately - and sadly - gets as lost at sea as its two characters.

This pope is very interesting. He's truly a pope of the people and takes on social and ecological issues with ease. Almost had me wanting to become Catholic. Almost.

Book Club (2018)
The year's biggest disappointment. Such a waste of four great actresses & six superb supporting actors. They admittedly had fun on the set but it doesn't show on the screen.

Deadpool 2 (2018)
Fast lines, shameless asides, no holds barred. Best outtakes in movie history & the last is the funniest of all. Lots of other actors but it is Reynolds who owns the movie.

A definite must-see. Loved the movie, the premise, the dialogue, the relationship of the two main characters. Love it all until it goes suicidal & implodes at the climax.

Barely fresh but kinda fun even though the monsters look like the cheesy 1960s Japanese horror flick creatures and the good guy robots are Transformer light.

Someone does one of these a year. A teen girl, or guy, or both a girl and a guy aren't immune to a disease and are dying. Unlike the target audience, I am immune.

7 Days in Entebbe (2018)
One of history's greatest hostage rescues deserves better than this. The nicest thing I can say about 7 Days is that it's terrible. The adjectives go downhill from there.

A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
Too much time. Not enough wrinkles. Director Ava DuVernay wants me to imagine being 12 again. The 12-year old in me didn't like it and 12-year olds today won't either.

The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Eastwood's experiment casting the 3 guys as themselves just works in places. The climax, however, is worth the price of the ticket & makes you want to stand & salute.
