More than anything, Adventure Time was a show that made sure that by the end of it you had learned something from it. You may not have always been able to pin down exactly what it was saying (like "Hall of Egress") but it always made that effort.
Pendleton Ward's creation is still fleshing out the troubled history of Ooo in fresh ways.
Less emotional than the Islands adventure that preceded it, this entry into the Adventure Time canon returns to cheerful silliness.
The miniseries feels big, but it's at its best when it thinks small and looks at how these sweeping events impact the characters' personal relationships.
