It's only a three-parter, sadly, but every episode is sure to sing, baffle and enthral.

Powerful, complex, mature drama dives into gender identity.
Butterfly explores an issue that parents all over the world are confronting. Even if it's a bit dark and heavy-handed, it will be interesting to see Max turn fully into Maxine and how his family handles it.
It's a thoughtful, nuanced family drama from playwright Tony Marchant that avoids easy answers.
Tony Marchant's drama set out its stall without fuss. We saw that far from being a phase, Max had been feeling this way for a long time.
But the serial also spends so much time on Vicky and Stephen's precious feelings that Maxine could have instead been diagnosed with childhood cancer and this alternate McGuffin would probably have had the same functional impact on the narrative.
