Critic Consensus: No consensus yet.

Series Info

A supernaturally slanted, superbly photographed good-versus-evil series set during the 1930s, focusing on a young man with mysterious talents who is picked up by a carnival crossing the Dust Bowl. At the same time, a California preacher predicts doom while battling his own demons. The pace is deliberate (often maddeningly so), but the drama presents an unusually evocative rendering of the hope and despair of the Great Depression.
Creator: Daniel Knauf

Critics Consensus: Carnivále admirably refuses to change its mystifying ways in its second - and final - outing, but by committing so strongly to teasing new questions, it forgets to provide the long-awaited answer of why audiences should care.

2005, HBO, 12 episodes

Critics Consensus: Carnivále aspires to be beguiling and addictive but plays so coy with its mythology that viewers are given little reason to care about this cast of wayward misfits.
