Damages: Season 4 (2011)

Critic Consensus: Damages deftly negotiates its transition onto a new platform with a more compact season that further escalates the series' already considerable drama, this time aided by a boisterous John Goodman.

Tv Season Info

"Damages" moved from FX to DirecTV for its fourth season, in which Ellen (Rose Byrne), now working at her mentor's firm, recruits Patty (Glenn Close) to help her investigate High Star, a private security firm working for the U.S. military in Afghanistan and headed up by the formidable Howard T. Erickson (John Goodman). While building their case, they tangle with a ruthless mercenary (Dylan Baker), who's determined to keep the pair away from a blood trail that could lead right back to Erickson.

All Critics (11) | Top Critics (7)

While a bit deliberately paced, a good start, with (as always) an excellent guest-star roster.

Nothing else seems to have changed, most critically the exquisite dance between ruthless attorney Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and her protegee Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne).

The level of suspense is just as strong as it's ever been, with Close and Byrne continuing to play off each other wonderfully.

As has always been the case, Damages remains a mystery-thriller whose characters and their psychological quirks are more intriguing than the plot.

If you're one of the people who've so far managed the suspension of disbelief required to accept that Close's Patty Hewes could yet again find a way to pull protege Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) back into her orbit, Season 4 shouldn't disappoint.

Trust me, Damages is worth it. And for those without access to DirecTV, worth the wait.
