A slick long-running ensemble sitcom set at a glossy women's magazine run by a bombastic publisher. Critic Reviews for Just Shoot Me: Season 1

All Critics (10) | Top Critics (6)

Scripts and pacing seem likely to improve as the need for character and story background lessens, and the chemistry among cast members holds enormous promise for comedy that's sometimes silly and sometimes sophisticated.

It's worth checking out for yourself.

The series pokes fun at the fashion industry and high-society life, but it's the show's sharp-tongued wit and quick sarcasm -- both of which play to Saturday Night Live alum David Spade's strengths -- that make it one worth watching.

Too many characters quip too wise, but San Giacomo has a nice way with a line, David Spade plays a good unctuous photographer and Segal is his normal exasperating self.

Spade, best-known as Chris Farley's sidekick in movies like Tommy Boy, can deliver an insult with such grace and precision it's like watching Fred Astaire dance with a prop.

Barely a kindly dollop of dialogue intrudes into the entire show. But producer and writer Steven Levitan ("Frasier," "The Larry Sanders Show") does have a wicked talent for sarcasm.

Audience Reviews for Just Shoot Me: Season 1

From NBC comes the wacky sitcom Just Shoot Me. Season 1 follows a young idealistic journalist named Maya Gallo who goes to work for her father at his fashion magazine hoping to reconnect with him and make his magazine more socially conscous. Starring Laura San Giacomo, Enrico Colantoni, and David Spade, the show has a solid cast that has good chemistry together and delivers the fast-paced, broad comedy quite well. However, a lot of the humor is pretty lowbrow; stereotypical jokes about models and fashion, along with sexual innuendos and double entendres. Still, it's all rather tame and the heart of the show is the father/daughter relationship. Only 6 episodes, the first season of Just Shoot Me is a little rocky but lays the groundwork for a promising series.
