It's the emotional drama that anchors the show.
While the first series was united by a central mystery, the second series...felt messy and chaotic, with great performances unable to save the show from feeling more like a mess of stuff rather than a series with momentum and an engaging throughline.
Series two picks up...and is finally giving us answers, as well as a new raincoat to covet.
It proved to be a brilliant, gripping piece of domestic noir, a marriage thriller in which the truths of a relationship were teased out across three compulsive seasons.
The wine-swigging slugger is back. I just hope the gloves stay off.
In an age of cinematic telly, or literary telly, Keeping Faith is telly-telly, and it is all the better for it.
