Series Info

CBS reworked its successful `Hawaii Five-O' formula into a hit spun around a charismatic PI. The scenic backdrop and action-oriented drama were similar, and the initial time slots were identical. Often, reference was even made to Steve McGarrett of `Five-O.' Magnum, however, was a lot more vulnerable and sensitive than McGarrett, traits more in tune with the times that helped contribute to the Emmy-winning Selleck's enormous appeal.

Critics Consensus: Magnum P.I. doesn't launch with the velocity of a fully confident spy show, but it's immediately clear that Tom Selleck has the goods as a bona fide leading man.
