As the title character, [Maury] Chaykin is thoroughly melodramatic and fustian -- a Wolfe in anything but sheepish clothing.
The dialogue (almost all of it right off the page) is peppermint-stick snappy.
With Archie as faintly bemused narrator, and the impatient Wolfe suffering no fools, it's all quite engaging and weightless.
The charming A&E series is an expansion of last year's Nero Wolfe movie special... Michael Jaffe wrote the script, which faithfully follows [Rex] Stout's words.
