What's the point of hiring jaunty Tim Curry as star and squandering him in a flat family comedy? Or casting the delightful Annie Potts, then giving her a scene in which she suffers a hangoverwhile handcuffed to a blender?
This is the kind of show that is so bad it makes you wonder how it got on the air.
"Over the Top" is utterly dreadful.
The chief problem for "Over the Top" is that, so far, we don't believe the two lead characters shared a past, however brief; viewers will need to buy into that idea if [Tim] Curry and [Annie] Potts are going to have a future together.
It's great fun to watch Mr. [Tim] Curry and Ms. [Annie] Potts try to achieve some sort of comic balance.
This is a ringingly hollow little show that makes you feel sorry for its plucky stars.
