Ransom: Season 1 (2017)

Critic Consensus: Ransom is a typical network procedural that lacks any originality or excitement.

Tv Season Info

Inspired by the experiences of real-life crisis negotiator Laurent Combalbert and his partner Marwan Mery, the crime drama "Ransom" follows the personal and professional lives of Eric Beaumont (Luke Roberts) and his team as they face the most dangerous criminals in the world. Eric never resorts to violence, but relies on his manipulation abilities; while this proves to be very useful on the job, it complicates his relationships with his family and his coworkers. His team includes Zara Hallam (Nazneen Contractor), the lead investigator; Oliver Yates (Brandon Jay McLaren), a psychological profiler; and Maxine Carlson (Sarah Green), the newest addition to the group. Season 1 focuses on Eric's struggles as he tries to do what's best for the victims while dealing with an overbearing ex-wife and a dangerous secret that might put the whole team at risk.

Critic Reviews for Ransom: Season 1

All Critics (15) | Top Critics (7)

It's not bad television, really. It's just by-the-CBS-book television. Episodes will mostly be self-contained, although the relationship between Beaumont and Carlson will provide a long-game string.

Ransom is easier to take than some of them, and with a hero who doesn't have to brandish a gun to get the job done.

It's the best show you aren't watching. Don't let it go.

The series can boast a unique premise and a promising cast, but the pilot falls short of delivering a truly compelling hour of television... a lot may need to change if Ransom is to have a long future at CBS.

With a ton of shows out there just like it, the trick will be in getting those who already have full TV schedules to make room for a series that doesn't immediately stand out from the crowd.

If you're just looking for another CBS procedural to casually watch on a Saturday night, Ransom is a solid choice.
