Critic Reviews for Second Time Around: Season 1

She fumes about his former girlfriend; he frets over her posing nude for a painting. The stars, a real-life couple, infuse the so-so comedy with passion.

The verbal sparring between Parker and Kodjoe doesn't lead to situations that render out-loud laughs. There's rehashing of why things didn't work out the first time but no emotional home-truthing of the type that gives comedy oomph.

The dialogue is stiff -- it sounds like it's coming from a 1980s sitcom.
It's not that "Second Time Around" is bad. It just isn't much. But maybe given time, it can build on the stars' chemistry and turn into something more.
The stylish pilot is sweet, has a few good lines and the leads have understandable chemistry.
Viewers would likely heave a sigh and change channels if not for the lively writing by creators Ralph Farquhar and Michelle Listenbee-Brown.
