Critic Consensus: Stateless has great performances and good intentions, but its harrowing real-life tale is undermined by its underdeveloped characterization of the refugee experience.

It's a fascinating story and Strahovski, so persuasive as a conflicted wife in "The Handmaid's Tale," is phenomenal here.

"Stateless" is consumed by an extraordinary exception instead of confronting the ongoing disenfranchisement toward displaced detainees.
The most frustrating issue here is one of narrative focus -- Stateless engages the refugee crises with some extremely tedious optics.

A masterfully told, forcefully acted nightmare about life in a dirty, bureaucratically impacted limbo.

Stateless is well-made with genuinely committed performances.
The story of how Australia and how much of the world treats their refugees is the heart of the matter here.
