Critic Consensus: Despite a hardworking cast that tries its best to get things moving, The Crew gets stuck in neutral, relying on Kevin James' standard vehicle formula.

Critic Reviews for The Crew: Season 1
All Critics (10) | Top Critics (5) | Fresh (4) | Rotten (6)
James fans will love this overstuffed commercial for NASCAR and its many sponsors.
If you could assemble a network sitcom with an instruction manual and pre-packed components, like IKEA furniture, whatever you came up with might look a lot like The Crew.
Kevin James NASCAR sitcom has product placement, alcohol.
The jokes get better and the cast chemistry stronger as the series goes on. By the fifth episode, James and crew have it running like, well, a well-oiled machine.
The Crew is definitely corny and retrograde in all the ways its trailer would lead you to expect. And yet... both James and Stroma are quite good.
On a nuts-and-bolts level, the vehicle is sound; it doesn't rattle too loudly or leak a lot of oil. The cast is very good, with enough depth and breadth that jokes can come from character.
