Critic Reviews for The Crown: Season 1

As a rebellious American, I think what's missing here is the voice of the British people. Without them, "The Crown" gives us little sense how the marriages and mishaps of a mostly ceremonial monarchy could still inspire a great nation.

Netflix's lavish production ticks all the boxes of a royal awards contender: impeccable craftsmanship, sterling performances and a historical story. But all that polish may have dulled its edge.

It's very moving and will make you grateful to live in 2016. But it is a little gross.

The Crown is the TV equivalent of a long drive through the English countryside. The scenery keeps changing, but remains the same. You nod off, then wake up - to see more of the same.

Should you watch it: Indubitably. Creator Peter Morgan, who wrote The Queen... breathes life into this alien, ossified world - and we watch that world suck the life out of this young woman.

I really don't see the point of writing a series about the Queen when she is still very much alive. It's well acted but I am really unsure of the historical accuracy and the saucy drama. Matt Smith was a bad cast for playing Phillip.
