Critic Consensus: Despite a talented cast, The Mysteries of Laura is dated both as a cop show and as a representation of single, working mothers.

The first episode of "The Mysteries of Laura" moved at a nice breezy pace and there was promising interplay between stars Debra Messing and Josh Lucas as estranged NYPD homicide cops with mischievous twin sons.

The Mysteries of Laura is a disasterpiece of the first order, a show so colossally wrongheaded, so cringe-inducingly terrible that one almost has to see it to believe it.

Messing is most agreeable, hitting her comedy marks and credible as supercop.

The Mysteries of Laura... has really snappy writing. It's good enough, in fact, to make this hour quite entertaining, but only if you can put aside the show's overt artificiality.
