Critic Reviews for Up to Speed: Season 1

Whether his nominal subject is labor strife or urban planning, the subtext of [Timothy "Speed" ]Levitch's monologues is always a celebration of what's sacred in the mundane.

The show might seem silly, but it's quickly endearing and you'll learn a lot, too.

As with much of [Richard] Linklater's output, I found it frustratingly flawed and yet deeply charming all the same.

[Timothy "Speed"] Levitch gets into conversations with inanimate objects and the objects talk back to him with a little help from voiceover actors... this gimmick is neither enlightening nor especially funny.
There's some solid educational value here, though Mr. [Richard] Linklater and Mr. [Timothy] Levitch's techniques for making it palatable won't be to everyone's taste.
